As part of Worcester’s community outreach work, the global manufacturer offered housing associations, in attendance at the 2017 ‘Fuelling Efficiency’ conference in London, the chance to win a new Worcester boiler.

Saxon Weald, a not-for-profit housing association that manages approximately 6,000 homes across Sussex and Hampshire, was chosen as the lucky winner and immediately put forward the BIRT managed house in Storrington, West Sussex.

Cylinder-based boiler system

Nysha Meale, team leader at the BIRT, said “We have several rehabilitation centers across the area supporting people who have acquired brain injuries. As you would imagine, having dependable heating and hot water at all of our sites is an extremely important part of our care. Storrington’s old cylinder-based system was due to be replaced. So, we were delighted with Worcester Bosch’s offer of a new one.

Before the project got underway, Worcester worked closely with the Trust to recommend the best product solution based on the property type and its usage expectations.

Worcester 38CDi Classic combi boiler

It was determined that the four-bedroom property, which has electric showers and hand washing basins in each room, in addition to a communal kitchen, breakfast room and lounge, would benefit from replacing its old boiler and cylinder with a Worcester 38CDi Classic combi boiler.

To complete the package, a system filter and comfort 1 controls were also installed

To complete the package, a system filter and comfort 1 controls were also installed. At the same time as converting from a cylinder-based heating system to a combination boiler, Saxon Weald also took the opportunity to install brand new radiators.

Worcester combi technology

Not only was the BIRT house fitted out with the latest Worcester combi technology, but the old tanks in the loft area were removed to free up space in the airing cupboard, to enable the people who live there to use it as a storage place. Completed in March 2018, the installation took place while the service users were out, in order to cause minimal disruption.

Colin Fauvel, technical specification manager at Worcester Bosch, said “With careful planning and organization we’ve been able to design a solution to fit the needs of the people who live at the house and the BIRT staff. This was an extremely worthwhile project to be involved with and we’re thrilled that we could help.
