From 21 to 25 September 2020, the Wilo Group is participating in the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW), an initiative that aims to increase awareness of the need for sustainable action. The European Sustainable Development Week takes place once a year and was initiated by Austria together with Germany and France.

This year the ESDW 2020 will take place from 18 September to 8 October 2020, with a core week from 20 to 26 September. The initiative aims at addressing the need for sustainable action based on concrete examples. In doing so, the ESDW is guided by the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. "Sustainable action is deeply rooted in Wilo's DNA and is a central part of the Group-wide sustainability strategy," explains Georg Weber, Chief Technology Officer of the Wilo Group: "By focusing on seven of the 17 sustainability goals, we are consistently orienting ourselves to our own corporate strategy with its defined values and goals.

Impressive commitment on site

The focus of sustainable action at Wilo is on the goals of clean water and sanitation, decent work and economic growth, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and municipalities, sustainable consumption and production, climate protection measures, and partnerships to achieve the goals. With the European Sustainability Week, Wilo wants to raise awareness of the topic of sustainability

"Our locations around the world have a significant impact on sustainable development," says Georg Weber. "The local commitment is impressive. Not only are projects to save energy, water and materials being implemented. Numerous social programs also help to improve living conditions and strengthen regional communities. We would like to expressly acknowledge and support this!

Worldwide showcase projects

Wilo's global showcase projects range from saving materials, energy, and water in its own production processes, drinking water projects in Africa and support for social, cultural, and educational initiatives to current active support for measures to mitigate the consequences of the corona pandemic, for example by providing unbureaucratic assistance in building and equipping hospitals.

Not losing sight of sustainability

"As part of our responsibility as a global group, we see it as our duty to measure our corporate actions against the yardstick of future-oriented sustainability wherever possible," explains Georg Weber.

With the European Sustainability Week, Wilo wants to raise awareness of the topic of sustainability in these times as well and at the same time encourage dialog. "Especially in times when other topics such as the Corona pandemic seem to be overriding the daily agenda, it is important not to lose sight of the pressing issues of sustainability. The European Sustainability Week is an excellent platform for this," Georg Weber is certain.
