The Viessmann Foundation is taking another important step towards expanding its social and societal responsibility. By providing 500000 Euros in funds, Viessmann, the globally renowned provider of climate solutions has made the largest single donation in its history.

The money will be used to set up a new ‘professional unit for Sustainable Healthy Nutrition’ at the National Cancer Prevention Center in Heidelberg, Germany.

Better promote cancer prevention

Cancer is the second most common cause of disease-related death in society

Cancer is the second most common cause of disease-related death in society and is a disease that is most feared by the population. In Germany, in particular, there are currently 500000 new cases every year and more than 200000 people die of cancer in this country every year. Around 40 percent of all cancers in Germany could be prevented by reducing known risk factors, such as smoking (primary prevention).

As many as 50 to 70 percent of all cancer deaths could be prevented in the long term through a combination of primary prevention and improved early detection (secondary prevention). Despite these figures, the potential of cancer prevention and early detection is only being exploited to a limited extent.

New ‘professional unit for Sustainable Healthy Nutrition’

In order to take an important and effective step towards cancer prevention, the new ‘professional unit for Sustainable Healthy Nutrition’ is being set up in Heidelberg, Germany and the Viessmann Foundation is supporting its establishment, with the high donation sum of 500000 Euros.

This is a hybrid facility between a laboratory and a kitchen, in which dishes are prepared for the study subjects in a way that is both healthy and tasty.

The individual components are put together with regard to calories and nutrient distribution, among other things. These are then converted into a personalized nutrition plan, based on the previous diet and lifestyle, as well as individual factors (such as age, weight, blood glucose level and genetic risk factors). The latest scientific findings are taken into account in each case when developing specific study menus.

Virtual lecture for Viessmann family members

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, this on-site appointment will take place in the summer

Because the Viessmann Group is particularly concerned about the health of its employees, the Chairman of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, Prof. Dr. Michael Baumann, was personally invited to the company headquarters in Allendorf (Eder). Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, this on-site appointment will take place in the summer.

However, an exciting virtual lecture on the importance of cancer prevention by Michael Baumann for the Viessmann family members will take place on 17th February, 2022. The lecture joins a whole series of articles and lectures worth knowing about the topic of cancer prevention.

German Cancer Research Center

As the largest biomedical research institution in Germany and a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is dedicated entirely to the task of conducting cancer research.

More than 3000 employees, including over 1200 scientists, work in more than 90 departments and research groups, in order to investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and search for strategies to prevent the development of cancer. They develop new approaches to diagnose tumors more precisely and treat cancer patients more successfully.
