RUSAL, one of the world's largest aluminum producers, has become the first company to publish a full set of documents for a forest carbon offset project in the national carbon units registry in both Russian and English.

In May 2024, RUSAL completed the verification of the results for the first reporting period of its forest carbon offset project, aimed at aerial forest fire protection in the Krasnoyarsk Region.

In June 2024, the operator of the Russian carbon units registry issued 1,351,054 carbon units (CU) to RUSAL’s account. The project was verified by the Saint Petersburg Forestry Research Institute.

The Russian CU registry, operated by AO Kontur manages the registration and accounting of carbon offset projects. As of June 1, 2024, the registry expanded its disclosure requirements, mandating project implementers to publish project documentation on its website, including the project implementation report, the validator’s report, and the verifier’s report.

RUSAL's forest carbon offset project is the first in the registry to have its documentation published in both Russian and English.
