An important milestone was reached on in the construction of Danfoss House with the beam layer being laid and the roof structure erected. Known as “topping out”, this builders’ rite marks the finishing of the structure of a building and is a landmark in its overall construction.

Since first breaking ground at the end of 2021, workers have been busy creating a highly modern and sustainable building for young Danfoss talents and specialist from around the globe to live.

The house, located on the harbor in Sønderborg, Denmark, will live up to the strictest sustainability standards and is financed by the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation – the main shareholder in Danfoss.

World’s energy efficiency capital

Lars Tveen, CEO, Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation, says: “Sønderborg is now recognized as the world’s energy efficiency capital and Danfoss House will be another showcase example of energy efficiency solutions in action. Buildings account for a third of all energy usage worldwide and it has never been more important to show everyone that we can build cost-effective and energy-efficient homes with the technology that already exists.”

Danfoss House is on track to be completed in 2023 with 14 apartments in the building. The building will be used as a base where seconded Danfoss employees from all over the world can live while they are away from home. It will also be one of the last pieces in the realization of American architect Frank Gehry's vision for Sønderborg Harbor.

The ambition for Danfoss House is to achieve the German Sustainable Building Council’s (DGBN) platinum certification. In addition to the platinum certification, the building is also aiming to be diamond-certified, which is a distinction the building can achieve for high architectural quality.
