Pump insulation jackets are specialized protective equipment designed to fit around industrial pumping equipment. Many different industries pump fluids or gases through pipes and need points of pump access on their pipeline. These industries include oil and gas, agriculture, transportation, power plants, marine and aerospace, chemical, bio-pharmaceutical, and more.

These pumps are critical locations and are greatly vulnerable, regardless of their contents. Keeping pumps functional and protected reduce workplace accidents, prevents product loss, and preserves the life of the pumping equipment.

Why Do Pumps Need Insulation Or Heating?

There are many benefits to wrapping insulation jackets and heating jackets around industrial pumps:

  • Freeze Protection

Keeping pipes and pumps properly insulated and evenly heated improves viscosity issues

When the contents of a piping system become frozen (or even slushie), they can rupture, block, and destroy expensive pump units. It is important to be well acquainted with freezing points and keep pipe contents well above those levels.

Keeping pipes and pumps properly insulated and evenly heated improves viscosity issues, and prevents blockages that result in lost product and costly downtime.

  • Keep Heat Where It Is Needed

Mechanical pump systems generate heat that, if properly insulated, can be safely contained around the pump to help prevent the contents from becoming dangerously vicious.

Directing heat inward to the pipe’s contents also reduces the energy costs needed to cool down working areas for personnel comfort.

  • Personnel Safety

Generally speaking, items that reach an external temperature of 100° F should be covered if they are in the vicinity of personnel. Pumps are placed at convenient access points where workers can access piping contents.

By insulating pipes and pumps and directing heat inward, personnel is protected from contact burns and other injuries.

  • Reduce Ambient Air Temperature

When pumps are located indoors, that ambient heat creates uncomfortable working conditions

Industrial pumps produce waste heat that transfers out into the ambient air. When pumps are located indoors, that ambient heat creates uncomfortable working conditions for workers and other temperature-sensitive materials in the vicinity.

Insulated pipes and pumps direct heat inward and reduce heat transfer into the ambient air.

  • Noise Reduction

The Interior components of industrial pumps can generate a lot of noise. A layer of closely contoured insulation can greatly reduce harmful decibel levels and create a more comfortable working environment.

  • Hydrate Prevention

Hydrates are solid, crystalline compounds that form when water molecules chemically bond to another compound such as carbon dioxide or other hydrocarbons.

Gas hydrates typically form under high pressure and low temperatures, in this case, natural gases of any form. Maintaining even, consistent heat prevents harmful hydrates from forming inside piping and pump equipment.

Powerblanket Pump Heating Solutions

Powerblanket knows that no 2 pumps are alike. Its world-class team of engineers is on standby to innovate tailor-made insulative heating solutions.

  • Year-Round Benefits: Powerblanket's custom heating wraps are so versatile they can optimize the pump operation all year long. They provide insulation and heat containment during the summer and freeze protection and heating during the winter.
  • Even Heat Distribution: All Powerblanket products eliminate hot and cold spots with our patented heat-spreading technology. Powerblanket jackets direct heat inward and evenly across the entire surface even under cold exterior temperatures.
  • Easy Installation And Removal: Its custom pipe and pump heaters are a breeze to install and use. In addition, they are just as easy to remove and store when their pumps need maintenance or inspection.
  • Easy To Clean: Powerblanket heating jackets are equipped with a durable vinyl exterior. Weatherproof and easy to clean, this exterior is even usable on outdoor piping and pump equipment.
  • Heavy Duty Insulation: When the Powerblanket is in use, users will notice the temperature difference between the cool top exterior and the hot lower exterior. Each heating jacket contains heavy-duty insulation that reduces wasted heat and energy by directing heat inward to the pump’s surface.
  • Fast Customization: Customization does not need to be a painful and lengthy endeavor. Powerblanket is proud to offer the fastest customization process on the market. Insulation and heating work most efficiently when the product is closely contoured and fitted around all instrumentation to eliminate gaps.
  • Hazardous Locations: Powerblanket can provide peace of mind with safe and effective heating solutions that are certified for C1D2 hazardous locations.
  • Smart Temperature Control: For added convenience and automation, pair the pump jacket with Powerblanket’s Beacon Smart Controllers and get heating control right at the user’s fingertips. Program temperature ranges, heating schedules, and more from an easy-to-use app on the smart device.
