“An additional £15 million of funding to make low-carbon heating options, like heat pumps, cheaper and easier to install is a welcome move by this new government, and is a positive step towards achieving the goal of 600,000 heat pump installations by 2028.”
“In recent months, Mitsubishi Electric heard from consumers that in addition to this, more information around ‘green’ home improvements must be made accessible, including about the benefits of heat pumps. In fact, only 6% of the UK public believe that the quality of current information available to support ‘green’ home improvements is very good.”
Energy-Efficient improvements
“In order to support homeowners with more informed decisions around sustainable and environmentally friendly renovations, more readily accessible and higher quality guidance to homeowners is vital. This means that independent bodies, such as energy providers, must now make a concerted effort to provide homeowners with enough information to support energy-efficient improvements to their home.”
Providing greater support for insulating the UK housing stock will help to reduce heat loss"
“Beyond this, there are other areas that the government must focus on if we are to reach the ambitious target of net-zero by 2050. Providing greater support for insulating the UK housing stock will help to reduce heat loss and reduce carbon emissions.”
Oil and gas boiler installations
“De-coupling electricity prices from gas could also reduce bills for consumers using other energy sources, and the government could even set a firm date for the end of oil and gas boiler installations – in the same way that a clear end to the sale of non-electric vehicles has been agreed.”
“With increased demand for heat pumps, the UK also needs a base of installers who are equipped to provide them. While bodies like the Heat Pump Association are already creating a highly skilled heat pump workforce, the government must increase funding to train installers across the country in order to overcome the current skills shortage and reach the level of heat pump uptake we hope for,” said Russell Dean, Residential Product Group Director at Mitsubishi Electric.
