Scottish hauler, McLaughlan Transport, continues to improve the sustainability of its temperature-controlled trailer fleet with the addition of three new Carrier Transicold Vector HE 19 units. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

Following the fuel-saving performance of the three previous Carrier Transicold Vector HE 19 units – similarly mounted to 13.6-meter Gray & Adams trailers – the latest assets add to McLaughlan Transport’s 70-strong temperature-controlled trailer fleet.

New Vector HE 19 units added to fleet

George McLaughlan, the Director at McLaughlan Transport, said “For more than three decades, Carrier has introduced cutting-edge new products that deliver both efficiency and performance to our fleet.

George McLaughlan adds, “The Vector HE 19 is no exception, it has proved as reliable as every Carrier product that has come before it – it’s exceptionally quiet, easily serviceable and offers significant fuel savings, which helps with our ongoing sustainability drive.

Featuring E-Drive all-electric technology

The Vector HE 19 units combine Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive all-electric technology with a new multi-speed engine design

The Vector HE 19 units combine Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive all-electric technology with a new multi-speed engine design, in order to deliver up to 30% fuel savings, when compared to the previous generation Vector 1950 units, thereby delivering a significant sustainability advantage.

In addition, the system’s fully hermetic scroll compressor and economizer offer a 40% increase in refrigeration capacity during pull-down, as well as a 50% reduction in refrigerant escape. The delivery of the Vector HE 19 units supports Carrier’s 2030 ESG goal of helping customers avoid more than one gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs).

Reduction in diesel, maintenance and electricity costs

The system is also 19% more efficient, when plugged into the electrical grid on standby, meaning that the Vector HE 19 unit can help to lower diesel, maintenance and electricity costs – all while being 3 dB(A) quieter than the legacy Vector 1950 unit, thereby helping to significantly reduce sound pollution.

Often delivering medical supplies, it is imperative that both McLaughlan Transport and its customers can accurately track and monitor the internal temperature of the trailers, so as to ensure compliance with the strict rules pertaining to pharmaceutical transport.

Remote unit monitoring and control system

McLaughlan Transport opted for Carrier Transicold’s remote unit monitoring and control system, in order to provide accurate diagnostics and data management, and support effective cold chain management.

Carrier has built a close relationship with McLaughlan Transport over the years,” said Mary Parker, the National Key Account Manager at Carrier Transicold UK, adding “They put great faith in our ability to truly deliver for their business and the Vector HE 19 unit is the latest unit that’s done exactly that.

New engineless Vector eCool trailer unit

Looking forward, it will be exciting to work with them to trial the next step in trailer technology"

Mary Parker adds, “Looking forward, it will be exciting to work with them to trial the next step in trailer technology - new engineless Vector eCool trailer unit, which relies on a cutting-edge, all-electric fully autonomous system, which produces no direct carbon dioxide or particulate emissions.

A family-owned business, McLaughlan Transport offers a range of haulage services from its base in Perth, Scotland, delivering everything from fruit and vegetables to eggs intended for hatching. The company’s new trailers are expected to operate approximately for 16 years, clocking up around 80,000 miles per year.

Refrigeration solutions for temperature-controlled cargo

Carrier Transicold creates refrigeration solutions to handle precise temperature-controlled cargo, such as food and beverages, as part of its Healthy, Safe, Sustainable and Intelligent Cold Chain Program.

The company’s products and services are designed to ensure the safe delivery and consumption of consumer perishable goods.
