Most garages are not connected to central heating, making them a large cold spot in most home heating systems. When winter comes, an unheated garage can be a less appealing place for home maintenance, tinkering, and other hobbies.

Keep workspaces toasty even in the harshest winters with electric garage heaters from Marley Engineered Products. Electric heaters don’t require venting like gas heaters and can be more cost-effective.

Risks with gas heaters

Propane or natural gas heaters pose safety risks to the garage that electric heaters don’t. Along with one’s car, truck, or other gas-powered vehicles, one may also store gas, oil and other flammables in the garage. Because there are no open flames or exhaust fumes with electric heaters, the air remains clear and they’re safer to use around gas vehicles and lawn tools.

Electric garage heaters give one the flexibility to heat the space the way one wants without taking up floor space

When one uses an electric garage heater, every bit of electricity used is converted into heat. With propane, on the other hand, only 80% of its fuel is used for heat while the other 20% is lost by-products. That fuel loss translates into inefficiency and can mean higher costs for homeowners, while electric heaters provide efficiency and potential cost savings.

Electric garage heaters give one the flexibility to heat the space the way one wants without taking up floor space or creating a tripping hazard. They can be mounted on the wall or ceiling, and angled to push warm air horizontally, vertically or in any other direction one chooses. These installation and airflow options are much harder to achieve with a gas garage heater.

Choosing the right garage heater

Radiant electric heaters

  • QHRA11 Series Infrared Plug-In Heater
Infrared technology heats the objects in the room instead of the air. 120V grounded cord and plug. Portable heaters are easy to move around the garage, targeting heat to the spot where one is working.

Portable heaters

  • MCM Series Portable Fan-Forced/Radiant Utility Heater
Portable unit with three heat settings. Ceramic core element. 120V grounded cord and plug.
  • BRH Series Contractor Heater
Built-in thermostat. Industrial grill. 6-foot heavy duty cord.
  • MMHD Series Portable Fan-Forced Utility Heater
Automatic thermostat. Tip-over safety switch. 120V grounded cord and plug.
  • QPH4A Series Portable Unit Heater
Three-way bracket to position unit on any flat surface including floor, ceiling and wall. Compact and easy to carry with built-in handles.

Fan-forced heaters

  • GH48R Series Garage Unit Heater
Includes remote control, mounting bracket and optional timer feature. The heating element is stainless steel.
  • HUHTA/ST Series Horizontal/Downflow Unit Heater
Equipped with ceiling-mount bracket for horizontal or vertical airflow mounting. Single pole thermostat. High limit cut-out prevents overheating.
  • HUHAA Series Unit Heater
Wide variety of optional control kits available. Optional fan-only option. Individual louvers adjust to direct airflow.

Matching wattage level with the size of the garage

  • GH48R Series Garage Unit Heater
Includes built-in digital interface, remote control, mounting bracket and timer. Stainless steel tubular heating element.
  • MWUH Series Horizontal/Downflow Unit Heater
Ceiling mount bracket for horizontal and vertical flow, or any position in between. Adjustable louvers control air throw direction.
  • MUH35 Series Unit Heater
Completely adjustable airflow. Includes bracket for wall or ceiling mount. Heavy gauge steel housing.

To ensure the heater is putting out enough heat to cover the area one wants to warm, one must match the wattage level of the heater with the size of the garage. With a plug-in 120V electric garage heater, all one needs is an outlet. An electric heater that runs at a voltage higher than 120 will need to be wired in. This will require some electrical work.
