Manchester Underwriting Management Ltd (MUM Ltd), an insurance company occupying the first floor of a commercial office building in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, in the United Kingdom (UK), approached SFE Services to initially assist with installing a new mechanical ventilation system. Their goal was to improve the well-being and safety of staff, prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The client also advised that they had an old ceiling cassette air conditioning system, which was no longer working in the open plan office. This area was also supplemented by two further ceiling cassettes, which struggled with the distribution of air flow, with members of staff directly below the units often feeling very cold.
Site survey and validation
A site survey and validation were carried out on all pre-existing equipment and a full report was provided to MUM Ltd with recommendations on how best to improve their existing systems and recommended replacements.
The Mitsubishi ceiling cassette system in the meeting room was also relocated to the center of the room
SFE Services removed 3 x Mitsubishi ceiling cassette split air conditioning systems in the open plan office area and replaced these with 2 x Midea ducted air conditioning systems with ceiling grille diffusers.
The Mitsubishi ceiling cassette system in the meeting room was also relocated to the center of the room, as it was currently located next to the door and the comms room air conditioning system, which had a refrigerant leak and damaged lagging was also pressure tested & repaired.
Midea Heat Recovery Ventilation system installed
A new Midea Heat Recovery Ventilation system was also installed throughout the open plan area, meeting room & Directors office, in order to provide fresh air supply and extraction to all occupied areas.
SFE Services installed new ceiling grids and tiles where necessary and on completion of works, provided a full clean to all areas for the client to move straight back in.
Installation of a ducted system and mechanical ventilation
The installation of a ducted system in the open plan area, the relocation of the meeting room cassette and installation of mechanical ventilation, has meant that air flow in these spaces is now evenly distributed, staff no longer experience cold drafts, and improved energy efficiency resulting in reduced energy costs and ensured the safety of staff for years to come.
