Energy Solutions Canada announced a contract with Laurentis Energy Partners, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, to provide license support for a new nuclear-materials sorting facility in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada.

The facility will be called Western Clean-Energy Sorting and Recycling (WCSR)

The facility will be called Western Clean-Energy Sorting and Recycling (WCSR). The purpose of the facility is to sort low-level radioactive materials, such as used worker garments, small tools, mops, and rags, to reduce volumes through processing and to maximize the recycling and free release of clean materials.

"Building on our longstanding relationships in the Canadian nuclear business and our deep experience in radioactive materials management, we are extremely excited about this venture with Laurentis Energy Partners to provide our licensing expertise in the operation of the new facility," stated Jeff Richardson, COO for Energy Solutions. 

He adds, "Laurentis Energy Partners is an innovator and leader in the clean-energy industry, offering expertise in a wide range of services including nuclear generation, inspections, and medical isotopes. We’re honored to partner with them in this innovative and important endeavor."

A ground-breaking event took place in November and construction is underway. The facility is expected to be in operation in 2022.
