Johnson Controls, the pioneer for smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, announces its partnership with The Dean Hotel, Cork, and the successful installation of the boutique hotel’s air conditioning and Heat Recovery Ventilation (HVAC) systems.

The project was won and installed by Airflow Services Ltd, an innovative specialist in heating and cooling based in County Cork, Ireland who were acquired by Johnson Controls in November 2021. Opened in December 2020, The Dean is Cork’s first design-led boutique hotel, offering 114 bedrooms and suites, a rooftop restaurant, gym, and event and social spaces.

Heat recovery systems

Airflow Services was chosen to provide a complete solution consisting of supply, installation, and commissioning of VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) multi-systems, providing simultaneous heating and cooling to 135 indoor DX (direct expansion) units. Additionally, the supply of heat recovery systems provides ventilated fresh air to specific areas throughout the hotel.

Philip Masterson, the HVAC Country Manager from Johnson Controls commented: “With The Dean due to open for Christmas 2020 our Airflow Services team was able to deliver a complicated design and installation despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus lockdown. These included COVID restrictions on physical working proximity, whilst ensuring installation complemented the unique, boutique design of the hotel which included false ceilings and a sloping roof to house equipment discretely.”

Creating perfect environment

Philip Masterson adds, “We worked closely together to ensure the six-month project was completed on time and to the highest standards and specifications, fit for a design-led visitor experience. Johnson Controls is proud to be associated with this installation and look forward to working with The Dean in the future.”

Declan Tighe, the Maintenance Manager from The Dean, Cork said: “Opening a hotel in the height of lockdown was challenging but with the right partners we succeeded in creating a now award-winning experience. We are dedicated to creating the perfect environment for our guests, using modern design and technology to create comfort and luxury.

Declan Tighe adds, "Airflow Services proved the ideal experts to design and deliver The Dean’s cooling and heating systems and to provide the ongoing support we need to delight our visitors. The integration with Johnson Controls brings the opportunity to further collaborate with the team on future works.”
