Johnson Controls, the global pioneer in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, announced the expansion of production capacity at its plant in Izmir, Türkiye.

This three-million-dollar investment enables Johnson Controls to address increased European market demand for commercial heat pumps by improving production efficiencies and offering shorter delivery times for HVAC solutions for commercial customers throughout Europe.

HVAC solutions

Heating and cooling are a significant factor in the carbon footprint of commercial buildings,” said Jens von Ebbe, Vice President and General Manager HVACR, EMEA and India.

Jens von Ebbe adds, “Optimizing efficiency within these facilities through HVAC solutions such as commercial heat pumps is critical and I’m excited that our investment at our Izmir plant will ensure we are ready to meet the market need, especially here in Europe.”

Heat pumps and chillers

The YORK® YMAE and YORK® YCPB commercial heat pumps will now be produced in Izmir

The new production lines come with a strong infrastructure upgrade (pressure tests, charging station, and leak test), effectively tripling Izmir's capacity. With these upgrades, heat pumps and chillers can be delivered to customers within weeks.

Among others, the YORK® YMAE and YORK® YCPB commercial heat pumps will now be produced in Izmir. In particular, the YMAE is in stock at the facility and can be quickly tailormade for customers.

Air-sourced heat pumps

The YMAE and YCPB are air-sourced heat pumps for heating and cooling designed for commercial applications such as shopping centers, hospitals, hotels, office buildings, and schools.

Both products use R-454B, a low-GWP refrigerant that cuts climate impact by nearly 80 percent compared with R-410A refrigerant, and which has already proven its efficiency within Johnson Controls’ YORK product ranges.

YMAE-Heat Pump (45-300 kW)

The YMAE is new in the YORK Amichi series. This new generation of the Amichi Series is an evolution of the 2021 ACR Awards Heat Pump Product of the Year (YMPA).

Featuring a full Inverter system and Enhanced Vapor Injection (EVI) technology, it sets a new benchmark for seasonal efficiency and cold climate heating capabilities. It is designed to feature cutting-edge heat pump technologies to deliver best-in-class energy efficiency and a wider operation range to match the toughest European climate conditions.

Model YMAE0130 (124 kW)

YMAE will expand its product range to retain small-capacity models below 65 kW

The first launched model YMAE0130 (124kW) boasts increased seasonal efficiencies that far exceed stringent regulatory requirements and current industry levels.

In addition, the Enhanced Vapor Injection (EVI) system is designed to enable YMAE to function at ambient temperatures down to −25 ºC and up to 60 ºC hot water— surpassing traditional heat pumps which can achieve −15 ºC and 55 ºC at best. Later this year, YMAE will expand its product range to include small capacity models below 65 kW. Further models will be introduced in 2025.

YCPB-Heat Pump (300-700 kW)

The YCPB unit is specifically designed for low ambient heating solutions thanks to Enhanced Vapor Injection (EVI) large scroll compressors. It is intended to offer the same extended operating envelope as YMAE (down to −25 ºC ambient temperature, up to 60 ºC hot water), while ensuring heating capacity, efficiency, and hot water temperature at low ambient.

The first models launched are the two-pipe YCPB 0320, 0420, and 0520, manufactured in Izmir, which are already on sale. Larger YCPB models and four-pipe versions, for simultaneous heating and cooling applications, will be introduced in 2025.
