Gradient, a company built by thermal scientists to rethink HVAC and build products that are good for the planet and great at cooling and heating homes, announced the All-Weather 120 V Window Heat Pump. The new product from Gradient provides efficient, climate-friendly heating and cooling in the coldest winters and hottest summers, all while operating quietly and minimizing noise.

Selected by the Biden administration to feature at American Possibilities: White House Demo Day as an example of the innovations spurred by economic policies like the IRA, the All-Weather 120 V simplifies electrified heating and cooling, eliminating the need for building modifications or professional installation. It plugs into a standard 120-volt outlet and takes just 30 minutes to install.

As the climate changes, the need for heating and cooling systems increases, creating a vicious cycle

According to the International Energy Agency, the number of AC units in buildings across the world is projected to increase to 5.6 billion by 2050. Unfortunately, current HVAC systems - often built with old, inefficient technology and slow to be replaced - are damaging the environment in an outsized way.

HVAC is a major contributor to climate change due to commonly used refrigerants and the burning of fossil fuels. As the climate changes, the need for heating and cooling systems increases, creating a vicious cycle.

Gradient breaks the cycle with products that keep homes comfortable without heating the planet. Thoughtfully designed, All-Weather 120 V Window Heat Pump is not just beautiful to look at-its proprietary meltwater management eliminates drips and unsightly hoses or drains. The dual indoor vents enhance airflow, providing consistent and balanced comfort throughout the space.

Innovative climate solutions

We are reimagining the HVAC industry by building products that keep homes comfortable and healthy for the people who inhabit them, without compromising the environment,” said Vince Romanin, Gradient Co-Founder and CEO, adding “The All-Weather 120V Window Heat Pump provides the benefits of a professional-grade, cold-climate heat pump system at a fraction of the cost.”

The Gradient All-Weather 120 V Window Heat Pump is set for availability in the fall of 2024, marking a significant milestone in Gradient’s commitment to innovative climate solutions.

Window heat pump units

In August 2022, Gradient was awarded a seven-year contract for the development and delivery of 10,000 cold climate packaged window heat pump units.

Gradient was selected by the New York City Housing Authority, New York Power Authority, and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority as a winner of the Clean Heat for All Challenge, enabling the company to accelerate its vision to transform every home to be more comfortable and healthy without compromising the environment. These units will begin installation in November of 2023.
