A 22-year military veteran and Emmy award-winner, Montel Williams has been announced as the new host of Military Makeover, the Goodman Manufacturing Company, L.P.-sponsored reality show that has been helping veterans and their families vastly improve homes that often face major repairs.
Williams, a U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy veteran, was the Emmy Award-winning host of The Montel Williams Show, which ran for 17 seasons. He will fill the big shoes left by the exuberant R. Lee Ermey “The Gunny,” who passed away this year after hosting Military Makeover for 13 seasons and leaving an indelible mark as the barking drill instructor in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket.
Heating and AC systems donated
Goodman has been donating high-efficiency heating and AC systems to Military Makeover since 2016
To help improve the lives of veterans and their families, Goodman has been donating high-efficiency heating and air conditioning systems to Military Makeover since 2016, and works with local, independent Goodman brand HVAC dealers to install the products as Military Makeover cameras roll.
Once renovations and new HVAC systems are in place, the renewed homes are revealed to the veterans, who typically suffer from debilitating military-service injuries that make working and day-to-day life challenging.
Helping veterans and their families
New host Williams spent 22 years serving the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy, where he discovered a passion for public speaking. He began traveling the country talking to teenagers about the importance of leadership and overcoming obstacles. The Montel William Show debuted in 1991, making Williams a household name. He won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 1996.
“We’re excited to work with Montel Williams, a man who spent more than two decades serving our country and who understands the challenges veterans often face,” explains Nathan Walker, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing at Goodman. “His motivational attitude toward veterans makes for an honorable succession to the unfortunate passing of R. Lee Ermey, a veteran who also suffered physical challenges from military service and who we will miss working with.”
