GE Appliances (GEA) will negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement in 2020 with approximately 3,800 production and boiler house workers at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Negotiations will take place in Louisville. The union representing Appliance Park production employees is the IUE-CWA, and the union representing boiler house employees is SEIU-32BJ.

The year 2020’s contract negotiations have been delayed due to the COVID-19 situation and subsequent travel and meeting restrictions. The current collective bargaining agreement at Appliance Park has been extended and now expires on September 6, 2020.

Negotiations will begin in June, and both parties are targeting to have bargaining completed by July 31, 2020. The September 6, 2020 date allows for additional time should it be needed.

Benefits business and the employees

GEA and the unions will discuss the state of the industry, needs of the business and priorities of employees, along with contract provisions on wages, healthcare and retirement benefits and work practices. The mutual goal of the company and the unions is to negotiate an agreement that benefits both the business and the employees.

Voting/Ratification

Each union involved will hold a vote for their local union members. When a majority of members (50% + 1) vote to accept the agreement, it becomes ratified and takes effect on the agreed-upon date.
