Whole Foods recently announced its launch of a new food redistribution program, “Nourishing our Neighborhoods.” Under the program, Whole Foods Market is donating a fleet of 21 Thermo King refrigerated vans to community-based food rescue and redistribution programs to expand their capacity and capability to move food from where it’s available to where it’s needed most.

The refrigerated vans were upfitted by Thermo King customer Delivery Concepts, in partnership with Thermo King dealer Thermo King Midwest.

We Move Food program

It’s exciting to see our products being used in the meaningful work that our customers and partners are doing to help reduce food waste in neighborhoods across the U.S.,” said Karin De Bondt, president of Thermo King Americas. “Their mission is near and dear to our We Move Food program and recognizing their efforts is a fantastic way of kicking-off Hunger Action Month in Thermo King Americas.”

182 million meals

According to Whole Foods, the vans will provide recipient organizations with 20,000 pounds of rescued food per week per vehicle, donated from Whole Foods Market and surrounding grocers and retailers, which equates to 182 million meals provided over the anticipated 10-year lifetime use of each van.

It is rewarding to be able to leverage our products, expertise and relationships to improve the lives of others. In this case, our strong partnership with our customer, Delivery Concepts, enabled the delivery of these vans to Whole Foods for the successful launch of the Nourishing our Neighborhoods program,” said Stoney Hull, general manager of Thermo King Midwest in Elkhart, Indiana.
