Following recent concerns expressed by the Competition and Markets Authority over misleading claims around green heating, energy trade body Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) are urging consumers to ‘stick some on the card’ as a way of protecting themselves when buying a heat pump.
The EUA has teamed up with Lincoln Green Solicitors, who specialize in seeking consumer redress when heat pumps do not perform as promised, to promote a simple way of protecting consumers.
Cost-free advice
The EUA is advising anyone buying a heat pump to put some of the cost onto their credit card, even a nominal amount, to protect themselves under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Doing this makes the credit card company jointly responsible for any misrepresentation or breach of contract on behalf of the seller. Making a claim against the credit card company is often a better course of action, particularly where the supplier ceases trading.
Commenting on the advice, Chief Executive Mike Foster said: “The recent CMA report on new green heating technologies should concern us all. As an industry we should be putting consumer interest first and here is some simple and cost-free advice to help protect people buying products like a heat pump for the first time.”
