Two of Danfoss Power Solutions’ newest products have been recognized in OEM Off-Highway magazine’s 2024 Top New Products awards program. The Editron ED3 onboard charger and electric power take-off were named the winner in the Electrical & Electronics category, while the DVG 60/100 directional valves received an honorable mention in the Fluid Power category.

Now in its 16th year, OEM Off Highway’s annual awards program highlights the ingenuity of the design teams and showcases the innovation behind some of the latest product launches in the mobile on- and off-road equipment manufacturing space.

Danfoss Editron ED3

The Danfoss Editron ED3 is a bidirectional onboard charger and electric power supply that offers high charging power and distributes energy to a vehicle’s auxiliary functions. Designed for on-highway commercial trucks as well as off-highway machinery, the ED3 enables rapid overnight and opportunity charging for vehicles using readily available utility outlets.

The charger can deliver up to 44 kilowatts to the main high-voltage battery — the highest available— and up to 44 kW of AC or DC power, as needed, to other subsystems.

Charging of heavy-duty vehicles

The ability to rapidly charge with AC power is crucial to making the electric vehicle business case

The ability to rapidly charge with AC power is crucial to making the electric vehicle business case. By providing nearly double the charging power of the market standard 22 kW onboard charger, the ED3 decreases charging time and enables overnight charging of heavy-duty vehicles using AC chargers.

By integrating an electric power take-off, the ED3 reduces complexity while providing space, weight, and cost savings.

Impact on mobile electrification

We’ve said that our ED3 onboard charger is an electric mobility game changer. This award, coupled with the immense interest and excitement over this product, substantiates that claim."

"Innovation is needed to boost on- and off-highway electrification, and we believe ED3 is a solution that will have a tremendous impact on mobile electrification by bridging the transition from conventional vehicles to full electric,” said Eric Azeroual, Vice President, Sales Development and Portfolio, Editron division, Danfoss Power Solutions.

Danfoss DVG 60/100 directional valve

The Danfoss DVG 60/100 directional valve group is a new line of open-center directional control valves for mobile machinery. DVG 60 and DVG 100 valves offer several class-leading performance attributes, including return flow rate, pressure drop, and active spool stroke resolution. These features:

  • Enable fast cylinder retraction to meet desired cycle times, eliminating the need for complex or oversized systems.
  • Reduce power losses and heat generation, enabling customers to reduce fuel consumption and cooling needs while optimizing the energy efficiency of the machine.
  • Provide better application controllability than other open-center valves on the market.

Danfoss’ extensive portfolio

DVG valves complement Danfoss’ extensive portfolio of spool valves, providing solutions for a wide range of machines and applications. The valves enhance operational efficiency without compromising on features or cost, and they’re available with remarkably short lead times.

We’re delighted to see OEM Off-Highway’s recognition of our new DVG directional valve group. This award goes to show that, even in a saturated market, there’s value in new products that improve upon the norm. DVG valves are a solid companion, delivering peak performance in open-center systems,” said José Ralero Sánchez, Global Product Portfolio Manager, Spool Valve Solutions, Danfoss Power Solutions.
