The new TIER 2 Standard Plus service pump is a reliable and efficient service pump, compatible with up to 30% biodiesel. It also offers high performance, while reducing overall costs of installers and end customers.

Transitioning to liquid low-carbon fuels is an important part of the CO2 decarbonization journey. Many of these fuels, which are created from different types of raw materials, are already available and will contribute significantly to climate protection together with modern oil-fired condensing boilers. Until now, the challenge has been getting biofuels to the boiler.

Danfoss' new TIER 2 Standard Plus service pump

Danfoss Burner Components has released the new TIER 2 Standard Plus service pump

Danfoss has taken up this challenge, by making its pumps biofuel ready. Danfoss Burner Components has released the new TIER 2 Standard Plus service pump, as part of the new modified service pump portfolio, including:

  • Service Standard – TIER 2 pump (cost effective standard fuel pump)
  • Service Standard Plus - TIER 2 Bio30 pump (cost effective and compatible with up to 30% biofuel blend pump)
  • Service Premium – Diamond Bio100 pump (premium durability, reliability and 100% biofuel ready pump)

Danfoss now offers a full range of fuel pumps for the service market, with only few variants up to 95% of all installed boilers fuel pumps can be replaced!

Solving the corrosion challenge

Traditional pumps often contain copper or copper-containing metals, for example brass. Independent research has shown that contact between parts made of brass and biofuels should be avoided. When biofuel contacts this type of non-ferrous metal, it oxidizes and polymerizes.

The fuel’s acid content increases and it becomes more corrosive. The fuel will then react with these metal parts in the pump, which can adversely impact pump performance, cause leakage, or even lead to the safety function (e.g., solenoid valve) failing.

Changing parts in time to ensure biofuel’s stability

Additionally, the combination of copper-containing parts and higher temperatures harms the biofuels, because of the internal circulation process. The fluid passes these parts several times, thereby reducing the biofuel’s stability and causing the fuel to degrade. To prevent this from happening, manufacturers would have to replace the parts yearly or every second year.

We have been working with biofuels for over 15 years, and we have always prioritized safety"

Ina Corneliussen, Product Manager, Burner Components, explains how the new biofuel ready pumps address this challenge, stating “We have been working with biofuels for over 15 years, and we have always prioritized safety."

She adds, "That’s one of the reasons we’ve modified the brass components in our Bio30 pumps to make sure all product components are biofuel compatible - either by advanced coatings or by material changes. And our well-known mechanical shaft sealing secures the highest quality and helps eliminate the risk of oil leakage and product malfunction.

TUV-certified to work with biofuels

We have conducted extensive in-house and field testing to develop our product portfolio, working closely with customers and independent competence centers to ensure the components’ compatibility with biofuels. After successful product testing, we acquired a TUV certification in 2021.

Some of the largest OEMs are already using our new pumps and have approved them for their applications, and we can see that more of our existing customers are interested in switching to Bio30 pumps. For example, effective July 1, 2022, France has changed its regulations to only install Bio30 ready products in their boilers,” comments Stefan Spornberger, Head of Application - Development & Project Management.

He adds, “We’re pleased to support our customers decarbonization efforts by providing them with best-in-class solutions for transitioning to carbon-neutral energy sources.

Reduce costs while lowering heating emissions

New TIER2 Service Standard Plus pump for the French market can serve small and medium sized domestic burners

The new TIER2 Service Standard Plus pump for the French market can serve small and medium sized domestic burners.

In comparison to other service pumps currently available on the market, TIER2 Bio30 offers more reliability and quality at a competitive price. Its innovative features enable customers to lower overall system and maintenance costs, while boosting the efficiency of their burners and lowering heating emissions.

Benefits of implementing TIER 2 Standard Service Plus

Designed to solve many challenges customers face, such as controlling oil odor; preventing oil leakage; operating within big temperature amplitudes; moderate oil consumption and lower the CO2 emissions — TIER 2 Bio30 is an excellent example for quality and performance, while compatible with liquid low-carbon fuels.

  • Compatible with liquid low-carbon fuels (up to 30% biodiesel)
  • Mechanical shaft seal
  • No oil leakages and no oil smell
  • Warranty – 18 months
  • Multi/single packaging
  • Local documentation and instruction language (French)
