Eurovent Middle East has been invited by UNEP to jointly organize two side events during the global climate conference COP28 taking place in Dubai, UAE, from 30 November to 12 December 2023.

The side events will consist of a roundtable on technical developments in cooling for hot ambient temperature countries, as well as a panel discussion on certification aspects and capacity building.

increased cooling demand

Cooling demand is soaring globally, but even more so in high ambient temperature environments. Rising living standards in developing countries are one major factor, but rising temperatures will also turn more countries into high ambient temperature environments.

Extreme temperatures and increased cooling demand resulting in increased greenhouse gas emissions are a vicious cycle.

Reduce emissions, address skills and training

It is essential to understand the needs and requirements for a technical transition"

Markus Lattner, Managing Director of Eurovent Middle East, underlines, “It is essential to understand the needs and requirements for a technical transition, also in regard to low GWP refrigerants, towards lower emissions in the HVACR sector."

He adds, "We will look at projects that significantly reduce emissions and discuss potentials and shortcomings in terms of regulatory environments but also address the aspect of technical skills and training required. Change needs educated people!

new sets of knowledge and skills

Technology is only one part of a wider value chain. The most efficient product will not deliver its designed performance if not used, installed, operated, and maintained correctly.

New technologies, connectivity, smart components, as well as alternative refrigerants all require new sets of knowledge and skills to be used efficiently.

side events

Within the side events, experts will discuss what other kinds of certification aside from already existing product certification schemes need to be considered.

The side events are scheduled as follows:

  • 03 December, 16:30-17:30h (Local Time), Low Emission Cooling in HAT Countries: Technical Developments
  • 06 December, 10:45-11:45h (Local Time), The Need for Certification: from Products to People

Both events will take place at the Montreal Protocol Advancing Climate Action Pavilion, (Ozone Cool Zone).
