Trane - by Trane Technologies, a global climate innovator - is pleased to announce that the City of Des Peres, Mo., has reported a nearly 70% improvement in the cleanliness of surfaces at The Lodge Des Peres recreation center thanks to indoor air quality enhancements installed at the popular location.
Early in the pandemic, the City teamed up with Trane to conduct an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessment at City Hall, the public safety building, and The Lodge Des Peres to ensure key measures were implemented to help make these public buildings as clean as possible for the staff, community, and first responders.
Additional controls programming
The assessment identified several opportunities for indoor air quality enhancements which would supplement the City’s already robust air quality measures, including upgrading to higher levels of filtration and additional controls programming. The recommendations are part of Wellsphere, Trane’s holistic approach to indoor environmental quality.
The city installed Synexis® Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP) technology in the meeting rooms
Next, the City focused in on The Lodge, as the recreation center is a popular community gathering space for meetings and a variety of fitness activities. With the help of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant, the city installed Synexis® Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP) technology in the meeting rooms, gymnasium, fitness area, indoor track, and locker rooms to help address surface cleanliness. Surface samples were collected prior to activating the system, then at 14 and 30 days.
Overall indoor environment
Third-party testing revealed that the presence of microbes on surfaces decreased by an average of 69.2% in the first 30 days after the Synexis units were turned on.
“We want the community, Lodge members, and our staff, to feel confident that when they come to the community center, they are in an environment that’s as clean as possible,” said Douglas Harms, city administrator. “It’s our hope that the addition of Synexis units – which run continuously, and with proven results – will increase assurance that the city is working hard to prioritize the cleanliness of the overall indoor environment.”

DHP molecules travel throughout an enclosed space to actively reduce levels of certain viruses
The Synexis Sphere and Sentry units installed offer innovative technology to continuously address certain harmful pathogens in the air and on surfaces. Synexis uses a process by which naturally occurring oxygen and humidity in the air is converted to Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) or DHP.
DHP molecules travel throughout an enclosed space to actively reduce levels of certain viruses, bacteria, mold, odors, and insects.
“We applaud the City of Des Peres for going the extra mile to create cleaner indoor spaces for its residents, staff and members of the community who frequent these key public spaces,” said Jennifer Geen, Senior Account Manager, Energy Services and Solutions, Trane. “The early results at The Lodge Des Peres show that indoor environmental quality investments make a difference and will continue to benefit the community for years to come.”
