Welsh food wholesaler, Harlech Foodservice, has taken delivery of four new rigid trucks, each mounted with a Carrier Transicold Supra® 850 MT (multi-temperature) Silent unit. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation, a foremost global provider of healthy, safe, and sustainable building and cold chain solutions.

The Carrier Transicold Supra 850 MT Silent units are mounted to new 12-tonne MAN rigid, each featuring specialist multi-compartment bodies from Solomon Commercials. Replacing older assets, the new trucks join a 32-strong mixed commercial vehicle fleet that is 90% Carrier cooled. Based out of the company’s headquarters in Criccieth, North Wales, the trucks will be on the road six days a week and are expected to clock up between 40,000 and 50,000 kilometers a year.

Operation Performance

We specified our first Supra around 12 years ago, and that’s roughly the length of time we expect our trucks to stay in operation,” said Jonathan Foskett, Joint Chairman, Harlech Foodservice.

Over those 12 years we’ve only seen a negligible drop in performance from those first units, which is mightily impressive. They guarantee us consistent, reliable performance with impeccable temperature recovery and rapid pull-down speeds, and since we introduced the low-noise version three years ago we also get the added bonus of much quieter unit; the Supra really is the best option for the multi-drop delivery routes we operate.

Supra 850 MT Silent Features

Supra 850 MT Silent provides constant airflow independent of engine speed Ideal for urban operations, the Supra 850 MT Silent significantly reduces noise, lessening the impact on residents, while providing constant airflow independent of engine speed to supply rapid pull-down and accurate multi-temperature set point control.

This allows Harlech Foodservice to transport a wide range of chilled and frozen products simultaneously to customers across Wales and North West England, including significant amounts of ice cream during the summer months. The reliability of the units helps ensure the safe transport of food, which aligns with Carrier’s Healthy, Safe, Sustainable Cold Chain Program.

Feedback

At peak times we could be making 20 or 30 drops a day. With that many door openings, you must be sure the fridge unit can cope and that the cold chain will be maintained. Happily, the Supras have never let us down,” adds Foskett.

Over the years we’ve specified both multi-temp Supra 750 and 850 units, matching the different power output to specific applications in our fleet – this versatility is another reason we’ve kept coming back to Carrier.

Harlech Foodservice
