Carrier Transicold has launched a 12-month-long roadshow across France, to demonstrate the world’s first, fully autonomous, all-electric, engineless refrigerated trailer system - the Carrier Transicold Vector eCool.

Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation, the renowned global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

Autonomous trailer system

Throughout 2022, Carrier Transicold will invite existing and potential customers across all sectors of the road transport industry, to experience its innovative new autonomous trailer system.

The campaign kicked off in January 2022, in the Seine-et-Marne Department, with Melun-based Yellow Transports. and Persan-based Prévoté trialing a Vector eCool unit for 15 days each, giving both companies sufficient time to observe the unit running in genuine operating conditions.

Despite being an engineless solution, the unit still delivered in line with our operating requirements"

After several days of transporting goods for a major distributor, we were pleasantly surprised with the Vector eCool’s performance,” said Elie Khalife, the Operations Manager at Yellow Transports.

Elie Khalife adds, “Despite being an engineless solution, the unit still delivered in line with our operating requirements, and it will certainly help us meet our customers' expectations for adopting greener transport solutions – all in all, the test was a great success!

The Carrier Transicold’s Vector eCool will travel to major cities, including Marseille, Lyon, Nantes and Bordeaux. Approximately 40 operators have registered for a trial, including key players in the distribution sector, such as Jacky Perrenot, STAF transport and STEF.

Integrated with E-Drive all-electric technology

Suitable for operation with the engineless versions of Carrier Transicold’s Vector HE 19 and Vector 1550E, the Vector eCool combines the company’s E-Drive all-electric technology, with a new cutting-edge energy recovery and storage system.

This system converts kinetic energy generated by the trailer into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack, in order to power the refrigeration unit. This loop creates a fully autonomous system that produces no direct carbon dioxide (CO2) or particulate emissions, while also operating at PIEK-compliant noise levels.

Solutions designed to reduce emissions

The Vector eCool underlines Carrier Transicold’s commitment to providing solutions designed at reducing emissions, improving reliability and increasing efficiency, throughout the refrigerated transport sector.

The Vector eCool all-electric engineless trailer system is critical to Carrier’s progress in reducing customers' carbon footprint by more than one Gigaton, while also achieving carbon neutral operations by 2030, as outlined in its ambitious Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Goals. This solution is offered through Carrier Corporation’s Healthy, Safe and Sustainable Cold Chain Program, aimed to preserve and protect the supply of food, medicine and vaccines globally.
