Demonstrating its commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions, Carrier Transicold Europe is collaborating with The Chemours Company, globally renowned fluorochemicals and refrigerant technology company, to replace R-452A in transport refrigeration equipment starting in 2021.
Low GWP refrigerant
The new refrigerant – soon to be selected – will have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) under 300
The new refrigerant – soon to be selected – will have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) under 300, which is an 85 percent reduction. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier, a global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.
“We believe that in the coming decade, European regulatory requirements will significantly drive a phase down of the use of high-GWP refrigerants in transport refrigeration units,” said Bertrand Gueguen, president, International Truck Trailer, Carrier Transicold. “This is why we have selected The Chemours Company to help us evaluate and source a low GWP refrigerant to be used across Europe.”
HFO (Hydrofluoroolefin) refrigerants
Carrier Transicold Europe has also been working closely with research groups to develop standards, codes and regulations that will ensure the safe and responsible use of HFO (hydrofluoroolefin) refrigerants, which are classified as having low GWP.
Carrier Transicold Europe is evaluating several refrigerants from Chemours’ Opteon XL family to determine the optimal combination of low environmental impact energy use, high performance, safety and longevity.
Opteon XL products
Carrier is committed to providing efficient, sustainable solutions for its customers"
“As the European F-gas regulations continue to move the HVACR industry toward more environmentally sustainable solutions it is critical to provide lower GWP options to equipment manufacturers around the world," said Diego Boeri, vice president of Chemours Fluorochemicals.
"Transport refrigeration is critical to the viability of the global cold chain and we are excited to work in collaboration with Carrier Transicold to provide Opteon XL products as a more sustainable solution that meets the stringent performance needs of this application.”
“Carrier is committed to providing efficient, sustainable solutions for its customers,” Gueguen said. “The selection of a low-GWP refrigerant is the next logical step in our evolution of transport refrigeration solutions. Innovation and technological advancement are in our DNA and we will continue to lead the way with the refrigerant of the future.”
