The 13th Heat Pump Conference, organized by the International Energy Agency, was held in Jeju, South Korea, from 26 to 29 April 2021.

CAREL was represented by Sergio Maria Capanelli, Residential HVAC Application Manager, who participated in the event with an analysis of the advantages and reliability of propane air-to-water heat pumps in the residential sector.

Addressing energy and environment

Following the cancellation of the 2020 conference due to the pandemic, this year’s event included both online and in-person participation, to allow all visitors and speakers to attend from home, adapting their time zones to the live event.

The focus of the meeting was the increasingly current relationship between energy and the environment and the consequent need to reconsider choices regarding space heating and cooling: compared to technologies that consume enormous quantities of fossil fuels, heat pumps are considered the system with the lowest impact on global warming.

Optimization of energy consumption, gains in system efficiency, and the need to reduce global CO2 emissions were the topics dealt with in the speech by Sergio Maria Capanelli, who illustrated how R-290 refrigerant can be a feasible and advantageous solution for air-to-water heat pumps, and how innovative designs can ensure high safety and maximum efficiency, in compliance with all European standards for the use of flammable refrigerants in residential air conditioning systems.
