The BDH sees the billion-dollar Corona reconstruction package presented by the EU as a great opportunity for climate protection. "There is no doubt that this EU recovery plan is a big step towards the economic reconstruction of Europe," said Uwe Glock, President of the Federal Association of the German Heating Industry, BDH.
“But let's take the great opportunity to link the Recovery Plan and the European Green Deal with one another from the outset,” demands the BDH President.
Promoting climate protection
"In particular, the building sector considered in the recovery plan and the investments in higher efficiency and renewable energies offer optimal conditions for securing millions of jobs in the EU and at the same time promoting climate protection in Europe's largest energy consumption sector," said the Managing Director of the BDH, Andreas Gap.
A good 70 million of the 125 million European heating systems use too much energy and emit too much CO2"
“A good 70 million of the 125 million European heating systems use too much energy and emit too much CO2.” The European and German heating industries are therefore calling for a ‘scrappage scheme for old and inefficient heating systems’ as part of the recovery plan.
Energetic building renovation
With the targeted use of funds from the Recovery Plan in the direction of energetic building renovation and accelerated heating replacement, high CO2 reduction targets could be achieved and at the same time an urgently needed restart of the heating markets in Italy, France, Spain, and Belgium, which had collapsed as a result of the corona pandemic, could be achieved.
This would not only be in the interests of the labor markets there but would also help the German heating industry to continue serving these important markets in the future.
