In 2017, around 78,000 new solar heating systems were installed - mostly in private homes / State subsidy of 3,600 euros for the switch to solar heating / Interest in local solar heating is growing
The number of solar heating systems in Germany grew by around 78,000 last year. At the end of 2017, there were over two million solar heating systems in operation in this country. The Federal Association of the German Heating Industry (BDH) and the Federal Association of the Solar Industry (BSWSolar) announced.
Solar Collectors
“Solar heating continues to be popular. This is because they can be combined with almost all other heating systems and easily retrofitted. Anyone who relies on permanently cheap oil and gas when it comes to heat is exposed to high-cost risks. Solar collectors make heating systems fit for the future for little money," says Carsten Körnig, BSW managing director.
“The combination of efficiency and renewable energies makes sense both in new buildings and in the modernization of existing buildings. Gas and oil condensing technology, heat pumps or wood heating in combination with solar thermal energy can be considered as solutions here. Compared to the old system, potential energy savings of up to 40 percent can be achieved,” says Andreas Lücke, General Manager of the BDH.
Climate-Friendly Heat
In 2018, consumers will again receive attractive government subsidies for switching to solar heating While solar collectors have mainly been installed on private homes in recent years, the industry registered growing interest from municipal utilities, businesses, and local authorities in the construction of large-scale solar thermal systems for local and district heating in 2017.
According to BSW information, large-scale systems can now deliver climate-friendly heat for less than five cents per kilowatt hour and are more widely used.
Switching To Solar Heating
BDH and BSW draw attention to the fact that in 2018 consumers will again receive attractive government subsidies for switching to solar heating. For the solar heating modernization of a home, it is usually 3,600 euros. In addition, the fact that interest rates are currently still low enables favorable financing costs.
The new short film "Heating with Sun and Natural Gas", shows how the switch to solar heating can also be successful in the cold season.
