Aggreko, the Glasgow-headquartered global provider of mobile, modular power, temperature control, and energy services, has announced an upgrade of its production facility in Dumbarton, with an investment totaling £4.5million.

Net Zero

As part of Aggreko’s Net Zero strategy, the site will turn into a future energy hub, replacing all diesel with low-emission HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) as well as exporting surplus power generated during production tests of Next Generation Gas gensets back to the national grid.

Smart battery storage systems and LED lighting systems will also be used to make the use of energy at the facility more efficient.

Net Zero emissions

The plans form part of Aggreko’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions from its operations by 2030

The scheme includes the acquisition of land at Lomondgate Park next to the existing site, which is owned by Strathleven Regeneration CIC (SRCIC). Construction started in November 2020 and represents an investment of £4m with local firms, bringing over 300 employees together in a campus environment that will add a state-of-the-art rental depot to the existing manufacturing site.

The investment and plans form part of Aggreko’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions from its operations by 2030.

modern working environment

In addition to the external upgrades, the office space at the facility will also be redesigned to provide a modern working environment for the 300 people who work at the site.

Aggreko currently has operations in three locations in Dumbarton, which will now be consolidated at the Lomondgate site to create a campus-style working environment.

reliable and greener products

Aine Finlayson, Director of Manufacturing at Aggreko, said, “Our Dumbarton facility sits at the heart of everything we do around the world, and is driven by the amazing team of people who work there. This investment is a demonstration of our commitment to our team and the local area, and making sure that we’re continuing to produce the high-quality, reliable, and greener products that our customers expect."

Aine Finlayson adds, "We continue to look for ways to enhance the value that the site brings to the business and the local community. Scotland is on an exciting journey toward Net Zero and we want to be part of that.

strengthen economic performance

SRCIC is pledged to help strengthen local economic performance in all we do"

Steven Szostak, the Project Director at Strathleven Regeneration CIC, said, “SRCIC is pledged to help strengthen local economic performance in all we do, so securing the Aggreko commitment is good news for West Dunbartonshire."

Steven Szostak adds, "I feel sure the sight of the new road feeding into Lomondgate Park will demonstrate how we remain open for business despite current economic uncertainty. We have other proposals in the pipeline so this should kick-start the delivery of our master plan for new jobs on Lomondgate.

Power, storage, and temperature control solutions

Jackie Baillie MSP, Director of SRCIC, added, “I know SRCIC has worked very closely with Aggreko to land this strategic investment and I am delighted it is about to materialize. This will help to secure hundreds of jobs by consolidating manufacturing at the Dumbarton site which is great news for our local area.”

Aggreko’s Lomondgate facility develops modular power, storage, and temperature control solutions which are used across the world to support projects in eight key sectors including construction, utilities, mining, and at events including Glastonbury Festival and the Super Bowl.
