Aggreko, the provider of mobile modular power, temperature control, and energy services, has won two industry awards in recent days in recognition of its innovative approach to providing bespoke power solutions across the world.

The first was an Argus LPG Award for Excellence in the New Frontier category in recognition of its delivery of a utility-scale power solution for the Virgin Island of St Croix.

Gas generators

In 2018, Aggreko signed a three-year contract with Virgin Island Water and Power Authority (VIWAPA) following the failure of the mechanical power generator on the island of St Croix. Since then, Aggreko has delivered 20 MW of flexible, reliable power using efficient gas generators, powered by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The energy solution is comprised of 1.2 MW power modules to maximize system reliability, efficiency and flexibility while providing power to approximately 26,000 residential and business customers across the island. By 2020, the power solution implemented by Aggreko is projected to save St Croix $6 million in the first two years of the contract.

Judges considered Aggreko’s partnership with VIWAPA to deliver an innovative and flexible power solution

In naming Aggreko as the winner of the New Frontier award, Argus’ judges considered Aggreko’s partnership with VIWAPA to deliver an innovative and flexible power solution. Together, Aggreko and VIWAPA overcame several hurdles in the delivery of the project, such as the huge variations in demand for power and the remote location of the island.

Pablo Varela, Managing Director, Aggreko Latin America, said “We are honored to have won an Argus LPG Award for Excellence in the New Frontier category for our work on St Croix. I’m immensely proud of the team for delivering such an innovative solution in challenging circumstances. We’re thrilled that the wider industry has recognized the project."

Experian Data Excellence Award

Aggreko was also announced as the winner of the Experian Data Excellence Award at the Lloyds National Business Awards at a ceremony that took place on the 12th of November. The company was recognized for its wholesale approach to utilizing data across its business to deliver more efficient and cost-effective solutions for its customers.

Using various data analysis tools, Aggreko has built a business-wide data platform, combining insight from multiple sources across the business. This allows the business to gather insights to improve the efficiency of its modular power solutions which are deployed around the world. Together, these changes have created multi-million dollar saving for Aggreko over the last two years.
