The Danfoss variable speed scroll compressor range now includes the ability to operate with vapor, liquid, and wet injection. The injection technology in the new Danfoss VZH-VI compressor range accelerates the flexibility for manufacturers to design units that achieve superior performance in comfort control, cooling, and low ambient heating for cold climates.

Used alongside the Danfoss fixed-speed compressor range, and combined with the full Danfoss-qualified injection package, it is truly a full-system solution.

Benefits of cooling and heating modes

The compressor range feeds system capacity and energy efficiency benefits both in cooling and heating

Adding injection to the VZH ensures that even in heating mode, space conditions can be modulated to precise settings. It also increases the system capacity and efficiency in both heating and cooling operations while maintaining the same compressor footprint.

The compressor range provides system capacity and energy efficiency benefits both in cooling and heating operating modes, with the ability to operate across a wide frequency range.

Economizer heat exchanger

Vapor injection is a method to increase refrigeration capacity and system efficiency in a wide range of applications, while also allowing units to operate in colder ambient conditions by expanding the compressor operating envelopes.

Refrigerant leaves the condenser as a subcooled liquid and passes through an expansion device before entering the economizer heat exchanger.

Reliably in cold climates

The expanded operating envelope will ensure that the compressor can run extremely reliably in cold climates

It leaves the heat exchanger as vapor or vapor/liquid mixture where it is then injected into the compressor, reducing work. It also provides an increase in system capacity since the inlet quality to the evaporator is lowered by first passing through the economizer heat exchanger.

The expanded operating envelope will ensure that the compressor can run extremely reliably in cold climates while maintaining precise temperature control. This is extremely important as the transition to heat pumps intensifies and reductions in fossil fuels are required.

Low-GWP compatibility

The VZH compressor range with injection is a game-changer in the path toward electrification,” said Nick Mislak, regional segment marketing director for HVAC at Danfoss Climate Solutions.

By enabling heat pumps to operate efficiently in colder climates, coupled with low-GWP compatibility, the VZH-VI provides the technology needed to move toward clean heat sources while maintaining customer comfort.”
