AMCA revises Publication 802 for Power Generation Fans. Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International Inc. announces the revision of AMCA Publication 802, Industrial Process/Power Generation Fans: Establishing Performance Using Laboratory Models.

Power-Generation Fans

The newly designated AMCA Publication 802-19 outlines methods used by manufacturers to determine the performance of full-size industrial-process and power-generation fans. These methods include:

  • The prediction of fan ratings using a standard model’s existing base performance data.
  • The building and testing of a model of a proposed fan or an existing fan to verify fan performance.

Fan Stagnation Pressure

AMCA Publication 802-19 provides detailed insight into variables that influence fan ratings and establishes rules to be used to convert performance from one fan to a geometrically similar fan. Additionally, it defines dimensional tolerances that must exist for two fans to be considered geometrically similar.

Changes to AMCA Publication 802 include:

  • Updated terminology (fan total pressure vs. fan stagnation pressure, for example).
  • Updated I-P formulas consistent with ANSI/AMCA Standard 210/ASHRAE Standard 51, Laboratory Methods of Testing Fans for Certified Aerodynamic Performance Rating.
